Following the "premiere" is the back lasting. It is the process of pulling different leather pieces over the last to later attach these to the insole. More specifically, the 'upper' (the visible leather part covering the upper foot) and the 'lining' (covering the inside part of the shoe) are separated by a 'stiffener' at the heel base, in order to support the foot perfectly. All three parts will be pulled over the top part of the last and carefully pinned together on the 'premiere' with small nails. The leather, which had been kept humid to be flexible enough, is then left to dry.
