We are very excited to count Abdulla Al Kaabi as our very first influencer to be featured in our new column! On this #Nationalday weekend and after yesterday's #Expo2020 announcement, Abdulla perfectly embodies the young, vibrant, talented face of the #UAE. We hope you enjoy reading his words as much as we enjoyed meeting him!
Abdulla was the talented young film maker behind The Cobbler’s first ever video. Soft spoken yet determined, he lead the shoot with elegance and passion, and when we got to know him better, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that he spoke a perfect French and that he shared some of our most treasured values as shoemakers: a passion for quality craftsmanship.
An Emirati National, Abdulla Khalifa Al Kaabi was born and raised in the Emirate of Fujairah. At the age of 16, Abdulla settled in Dubai to continue his studies at the American University of Sharjah majoring in International Studies. While still studying, he became a lead TV presenter for Dubai TV and stayed in this position for 4 years. Knowing that he always wanted to be in the Director's seat, Abdulla moved to Paris in 2009 to pursue a Master's Degree in Filmmaking.
Abdulla then pursued a career in filmmaking where he directed his first award-winning short film, The Philosopher with famed French actor Jean Reno. The film opened at the Dubai International Film Festival in 2010 and toured 34 Film Festivals around the world including Tribeca Film Festival in New York, winning 3 awards.
Abdulla recently shot another short film for the Dubai International Film Festival. He is also working on his first feature film, over 2 years in the making, and is one of the only film makers to work on such a challenging project at a very young age. (Part 1/5)
